MEXICO: Earliest 16th Century Monasteries on the slopes of Popocatepetl

Brief Description:
This site consists of fourteen monasteries built on the slopes of Popocatepetl, to the south-east of Mexico City. Perfectly preserved, they are very representative of the architectural model followed by the first missionaries - Franciscans, Dominicans and Augustinians - who introduced Christianity to the native populations at the beginning of the 16th century.
